Mass Disaster Team

Dr. Souviron was instrumental, along with Dr. Bill Silver and Dr. Bruce Greenstein, in founding and implementing the dental components of the Miami Dade County Mass Disaster Team.

The services of this dental team include categorizing and analyzing human remains for purposes of identification in mass disasters, the collection and computerization of ante-mortem dental records and the computerization and documentation of post- mortem dental records along with the analysis of the data in formulating a positive dental identification.

The process used for Mass Disaster Identification is not routinely implemented. However, in cases of mass disaster, team work, knowledge of the subject, speed and accuracy is of utmost importance. Having 35 years experience with dental identifications, handling the dental portion of mass disasters identification was done in Eastern Airlines flight 401, Valujet flight 592, Fine Air flight 101 and other mishaps such as helicopter crashes, fires and multiple deaths from boat accidents are all part of Dr. Souviron’s expertise.
